What are LED Area Lights?

We design our LED area lights for specialized applications such as street illumination, outdoor parking lots, sidewalks, sport fields and courts, and other large open areas. Revolution Lighting offers several versions of LED area lights with assorted lens options and multiple mounting options.

LED Distribution Types

When you want to ensure you’re making the right choice for optimal outdoor area lighting, first review the LED distribution types and pattern the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) has established.The IESNA stipulates five types of outdoor street lighting (or area lights): Type I, Type II, Type III, Type IV and Type V. Revolution Lighting offers two types of lenses for its LED Area Lights: Type III and Type V.

The Type III lens on Revolution Lighting’s LED area lights provides asymmetrical outdoor IESNA LED lighting distribution, like Type II and Type IV lenses. An LED area light with a Type III lens casts oval-shaped light, with the light source centered in the narrow part of the oval but oriented to one side. Type III area lights have a wide light distribution, which makes them perfect for highways, parking lot perimeters, garages, driveways and sports fields.

The Type V lens on Revolution Lighting’s LED area lights provides uniform lighting distribution shaped like a square with rounded corners. With Type V, the light source appears in the center of the light distribution. The key difference between the Type V lenses versus the other lenses is that Type V casts light with a more defined, crisper angle, making it ideal for lighting projects with special requirements. Revolution Lighting’s LED area lights with Type V lens are great for crossroads, roadways, and parking lot center aisles.
